Apple Jacket – Keep your apples safe

Apple Jacket
Apples make great snacks. When you’re on the go they can be an easy snack to carry around in your backpack (or purse, for the ladies). Unfortunately they are fairly prone to getting easily beat up/dented/punctured/bruised/etc.

Thank goodness Jacqueline Knits has come to save the day. Their Apple Jacket product is a hand-knitted “jacket” that wraps around any apple and keeps it nice and cozy right up until you’re ready to take a bite.

These are available from Rose and Radish for $14.50.

FLUKE Log Lamp
Elliot Johnson has designing a quirky little lamp that is molded from an actual piece of wood.

The Log Lamp stands at around 15″ tall and is formed out of light plastic. With the flip of a switch you get a soft glow of light from the lamp.

This piece of art will cost you $415 and is available from FLUKE.

Bike Vending Machine

Bike Dispenser
You can vend just about anything. From candy to coke to iPods to movies to cellphones and even groceries…you seriously can get just about anything in a vending machine.

Now you can add another thing to the list of vendable goods. Bicycles. Yes. Bicycles.

A Dutch company has been testing out the idea of renting out bikes via bike vending machines.

Bike Dispenser
You’d simply rent a bike to take you from one place to another and then drop off your bike at your destination’s bike dispenser.

It really is a great idea (and certainly hasn’t been done in this fashion before). The company actually won a 2007 Spark Design & Architecture Awards for their ingenious idea.

Cima Ladder – Climbing on your roof just got fashionable

Cima Ladder

The Cima Ladder is reinvention of a classic tool. By using a carbon fiber composite and eliminating other movable parts, the 7 foot Cima Ladder is able to weigh in at barely 2 pounds.

The designers of the Cima Ladder claim its staggered steps are more natural to use than the classic ladder. I can’t imagine they’d be that natural to just stand on if you were doing something like painting a house. But for climbing from Point A to Point B, it does seem quite functional.

A Sofa Bed taken to new Heights

BonBon DOC Sofa Bed
Multifunctional furniture really is something that every home should have. It just makes too much sense for furniture to serve multiple purposes to not have at least something in your home like that.

The DOC Sofa Bed by BonBon Trading is a fantastic example of multipurpose furniture. It converts from a simple sofa into a bunk bed. It takes the “sofa bed” to a completely new level and when it’s converted into the bed, it doesn’t take up any more floor space which is perfect for smaller apartments/lofts.

Gold and Platinum Knives for the Rich and…Dumb

Victorinox Swiss Army Knives

Unreal. I guess some people will buy anything.

Victorinox Swiss Army has produced 2 different diamond encrusted knives for the uber-rich to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Victorinox.

Each knife is covered in 430 flawless diamonds to make a total of 4 carats. Each tool (except for the tweezers) have diamond engravings on to create a “beautiful” piece of work.

The gold knife is available for the low price of $50,000 while the platinum is significantly overpriced at $70,000.

These collectibles (atleast I assume they are “collectibles”…you don’t stab stuff with a $70,000 knife) each are limited to 120 pieces per style and are available here.
